Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-bin totem-mozilla-viewer

Distro Release: Edgy 6.10
Package versions:

Attached: firefox's gdb backtrace http://librarian.launchpad.net/5423658/gdb-firefox.log

Description:

1. Go to: http://dusk.org/adam/tmp/ffbug.html

2. Click the link. It will try to play the file in Totem, and if you haven't installed any extra packages, it will fail with a "Totem can't play fd0://" message.

3. Click the browser back button.

4. Right click the link, Save As.

5. The dialog box will hang for a few seconds, and then the browser crashes.

This is reproducible every time on my system. Completely up-to-date Edgy, minimal extra pacakges installed, all Firefox extensions disabled.

Of course this happens on many other pages (GMail, for example, is where I noticed it the most) but the example above is the most obvious. It seems to happen with any file type, not just mp3.

Thanks for your full report.

I've followed your steps and I can play the file without any problem:

hjmf@desktop:~$ ps aux | egrep "[t]otem"
hjmf 23445 4.3 1.4 89404 15028 ? SLl 12:59 0:03 /usr/lib/totem/totem-mozilla-viewer --xid 48312850 --width 100 --height 100 --url http://dusk.org/adam/tmp/ffbug.mp3 --mimetype audio/mpeg fd://0

Also when I follow steps 3-5 the download dialog proceeds the usual way and the file gets saved perfectly.

I'm using as you are, Edgy with all the updates.

Maybe is a misconfiguration or something. But please if you have time it could be very helpful for us in order to get more info about your problem if you follow the hints on debugging firefox (using firefox-dbg) form https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingFirefox

Sure, here's the gdb log. Anything else I can provide that would be helpful, just let me know.

firefox 2.0+0dfsg-0ubuntu3
