Firefox freezes.. Almost locks up System.

Not too sure what happens but as I am browsing using firefox.. Sometimes it seems to freeze the entire system. Even after I force quit firefox, System becomes unresponsive... Eventually when i get access to the console, I can do a killall firefox to get my system back.

I have the same issue, it is firefox, after several minutes of waiting, i can see in the gnome-system- monitor that some tasks are Uninterrumpible, like Xorg, firefox-bin, plugin-container, evolution, etc.... An i can also notice that the hard drive is intensive accesed. I changed the urlclassifier. updatecachemax to some about 50 MB, and it got some better, but the firefox stills very choppy and unstable, i cannot have more than 10 tabs open and my system is a P4 2.8 GHz (HT) with 500GB 7200RPM HDD and 512MB of RAM...
