It's not only Gmail for me. It crashes on many other sites, e.g. http://www.centrum.cz . Doesn't matter if run in safe mode or not. If run from console it prints this:

The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 118 error_code 8 request_code 146 minor_code 3)

Package version: Firefox version: 2.0+0dfsg-0ubuntu[1-3]

Changed in firefox:
status: Unconfirmed → Confirmed

I have the same error both on gmail and your site :

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I have found why i'm crashing in those sites : this is working without flash-plugin, and crashing when I install it.

Seems to be similar to or duplicate of #62988.

Does it help if you
* add export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 to /usr/lib/firefox/firefox or
* switch Composite off in xorg.conf or
* switch screen depth from 16 bits to 24 bits?

XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 fixed this for me. FF is second app having some problem with RGBA, so there's something wrong with X configuration (there's nothing about composite in my xorg.conf or Xorg.0.log).

I can reproduce GMail crash, but only when flash plugin is installed, so I marked it a duplicate.
