Backspace is not linked to "Back" page navigation

Bug Description

The install is upgraded from 6.06 (which was a fresh install) to Edgy with the update-manager (Oct. 13). The packages are up to date as of Oct. 17 13:30 GMT with a dist-upgrade. The bug was there since the upgrade to Edgy.

The backspace key in not linked to the "Back" navigation button, but takes you up one page up.

If this is a feature that can be changed in the preference dialog, I must be dumb, and I will accept that fact. If this is a setting in Chrome, then it is a tad complicated for a normal user who probably expects a widely accepted backspace key behavior.

Thanks for the Ubuntu work!

It is indeed a Chrome setting.

In the about:config page the browser.backspace_action default value is 1, assigning a page-up.

Setting the value to 0 gives the back action in a more widely accepted fashion.

Hi Nico,

Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you found the solution. This isn't strictly speaking a bug. The changes you are suggesting require more discussion and should rather be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum.

http://www.ubuntu.com/community/forums/ might be a good start.
