Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

When right-clicking in a text-area and looking under Languages in the context menu, Firefox lists some of the entries twice. For example:

* English / Australia
* English / Australia
* English / Canada
* English / South Africa
* English / United Kingdom
* English / United Kingdom
* English / United States
* English / United States

This is due to Firefox using both the language dictionaries installed on the system, as well as the dictionaries installed in Firefox itself.

I can confirm this on my system. It appears that Firefox lists one item for the languages installed on the Ubuntu system, and a second (sometimes identical) item for the languages installed in Firefox itself.

Changed in firefox (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

This was originally reported as bug 66015, and Mozilla has since fixed their end of the problem. Now the symlinks need to be fixed downstream so that this does not happen. Marking Triaged and Low, and this report can be used to track the progress on this bug.

Thanks again for reporting this to Ubuntu, and please continue to let us know about any bugs you encounter!

This should actually be fixed with bug 590450, so I marking this a duplicate. Please report any other issues you may find.

Sorry for the bug noise. Deduplicating this since the directory change was the first step to removing the duplicates. We still have a few duplicate dictionaries.

status: Confirmed → Triaged

Same error. It's very annoying.
In the same way that I can disable langpack in Firefox menu,I should be able to disable dictionaries.
