Bug Description

When I upgraded to Lucid, It seems something is broken in Firefox 3.6 and the way it handles Launchpad. If you have a few tabs open with other websites and then have a couple of tabs open for Launchpad it seems when you switch to the tabs containing Launchpad its VERY slow to switch to those tabs. When you switch tabs to other websites it works fine.

Same problem for me for 3 or 4 days (since Launchpad v10.04 maybe)

Viewing launchpad's bugs is horribly slow. Switching from tab to tab is also very slow.

Configuration : firefox 3.6.3 on Ubuntu 10.04

This is extremely embarrassing for Canonical. This is one of their showpiece products and it fails to work well on their own platform. I accessed Launchpad from a Windows machine using Firefox 3.6 and it works a lot better than an Ubuntu machine. I would mark this as "critical" importance because if the general media is aware of this bug then it is going to be a scandal for Canonical.

In the past this has been related to video drivers. See bug 408984 for instance. Switching bug to Ubuntu.

Marking as firefox for now. Can anyone confirm this on different browsers or different video hardware?

How can it be a Firefox bug when this bug only happens with Launchpad? 99.9999 percent of other websites work fine including ones with heavy javascript and graphics. There is obviously something in the coding of Launchpad that Firefox doesn't like and since its one of the jobs of a web developer to test their websites across different browsers, next thing you will say that the web developer for Launchpad only uses Mac OSX and only tested on Safari because he/she thinks that "well if it works on Safari it works on Firefox !!"

I might also add that even if this is a graphics driver issue there is a high likelihood that it wont get fixed upstream so Launchpad must make some workarounds to help alleviate the slow tab switching.

That's a reasonable point, especially given the timeline of 223238. Since we can't dupe, this will be difficult to address, but with this bug and bug 537298, we have at least five reports of affected users. I'm exploring with the CSS folks, since it appears to be related.

Conclusion from experts here: no one could conclusively narrow down the issue. Major sites are also affected. It really is Firefox' problem, not the Internet's. Won't Fix.
