Bug Description

Testcase to test on latest firefox 1.5.0.x (dapper) as well as on latest 2.0.0.x (edgy, feisty, gutsy)
(backup your .mozlla directory in case something goes wrong)
+ unpack attached profile in your .mozilla/firefox directory (-> http://launchpadlibrarian.net/6347597/profile.tar)
+ edit .mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini to point to that directory (in section [Profile0])
+ note if download manager is empty/blank like in screenshot: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/5622475/downloads.jpg

------------- reports summary below:
The downloads dialog box remains blank. Normally it lists your downloads, their progress, etc. But when I download anything it simply remains totally blank and doesn't list anything, although downloads work fine. I have Dapper Drake Flight 3 for AMD64.

To reproduce this issue, download some files through firefox and click Tools > Downloads in case the download box doesn't appear. It remains blank although downloads do complete successfully.

Might my profile have been corrupted somehow?

most likely. I'll keep this bug report open for now, maybe some other users
can duplicate it.

Matt, do you still have your old profile?

Unless we can at least find what in the profile is causing this, we cannot process this issue. So not Confirmed. Changing state accordingly.

I've remembered that another thing that didn't work was that new pages never opened in a new tab as I told them too in the preferences. They opened in a new window annoyingly.

Alexander were you able to find anything in the profile that would cause this issue?
Matt the bug about firefox not opening new windows in tab is another bug report. I dont remember what one but i believe it was fixed. Please upgrade to latest ubuntu version of firefox in edgy repos and let me know. If it still doesnt open in tabs please file another bug report for that issue.

I am experiencing the very same problem on feisty now. I didn't have these problems before.
Now I also don't see the downloads anywhere. I also installed some download statusbar plugin.
Neither this, nor the normal download widget shows anything.

In may case this appears to be the cause of a screw up inthe profiles, maybe through a plugin.

Probably you have a bad extension installed. Try to start in safe-mode
and see if things go away:

 # firefox -safe-mode

if this helps, try to uninstall extensions one by one until its fixed
and let us know which extension caused the troubles.

Thanks,

I have the same problem with my Edge Ubuntu installation:

* The download box is always blank
* When "Save Page As..." or "Save Link As..." are selected from the context menu, nothing happens - no dialog is displayed.
* Only one profile is affected - other profiles work fine.
* Starting in safe mode doesn't fix the problem, neither does uninstalling all extensions

I have attached my Profile.

I had the same problem but I took a punt and deleted (actually renamed) the downloads.rdf file and it worked. FF creates a new file and off it goes.

I'm running Feisty and FF 2.0.0.3

I tried to open the file first but gedit couldn't work out the character coding so I suspected it was faulty. I would have attached the deleted one but who knows what it would reveal about me ;)

i dropped your downloads.rdf in my profile and cannot reproduce. Maybe there was a bug once that is now gone?

In your downloads.rdf i see an entry which appears to contain duplicate nodes (DateStarted, DateEnded ...) - see below. Anyway, latest firefox in feisty doesn't choke on this if i drop it in my profile ... so please let us know if its gone for you as well (when using the profile directory attached to this bug).

Thanks!

The problem is still there when using the profile I attached earlier. I tried renaming downloads.rdf as wombat suggested, but it made no difference - same symptoms, and a new downloads.rdf file was NOT created by firefox.

I don't think downloads.rdf is the cause of this problem for me. Alexander - can you try to reproduce by downloading my entire profile?

I'm using Ubuntu Edgy, FF 2.0.0.4

Workaround: Create a new profile and copy over the downloads.rdf from the new profile onto the profile where the problem appears. Alternatively, you can also copy the attached downloads.rdf file.

I thought this was a bug with firefox 2/3 on Ubuntu hardy, but it turns out it's a feature. You have to go to Edit > Preferences > Privacy and check off "Remember what I've downloaded" for items to remain in FF's download dialog. Somewhat counter-intuitive. Attaching screeny.

why are you not updated to 3.0.6? if you havent done yet you need to
uncomment security repos. the updated version may already have fixed
this. Please upgrade to 3.0.6 in Intrepid from our repoistories.
