I am using Mozilla Firefox 3.0b3 on Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" (alpha).

With GNOME 2.21.92 (03/04/2008)

ii python-compizconfig 0.6.99+git20080214-0ubuntu1 Compiz configuration system bindings

When I open Mozilla Firefox (in non-maximized mode), it always opens in the top-left corner.
It should open in the same location the window where when I closed it.

In the compizConfig manager, do you have activated the plugins 'place windows' ? If not, activate it and check if your problem is still here.

Yes, the "Place Windows" plugin is enabled.

It is in placement mode "Centered". With "workarounds" ticked.

Do you have others apps that have the same behavior, such as Evince ?
And the firefox in the repository is now firefox beta5, does it still occur with this new version?

Fred (eldmannen+launchpad) wrote :

As far as I am aware, this behavior is only with Firefox. Evince does not seem to have this behavior.

Yes, I do still have this behavior occur in 3.0b5.

Sorry but Firefox-2 is getting near EOS and they wont be fixing anything but major issues security issues mainly. Please try to reproduce this with Firefox-3.0 if you can reproduce this bug please click on Help > Report a problem and file the bug that way. This does not mean that it wasn't already fixed.

Please refile this against fire-3.0
Please make sure that prior to starting on the upper left that you resized the firefox window then closed now open on upper left. or does this just open on upper left if the first is true please look for another bug with same issue there are a few.
I will look and mark as dupilcate

Same problem here with Hardy and Firefox 3 and window placement on "centered"...only Firefox window goes to upper left...randomly...sometimes. None of my other applications have this problem. I have the same problem with Firefox when using 'Fixed Window Placement". Sometimes it goes where I have placed it, sometimes it opens in the upper left. Very strange.

Hey together,

i have a working fix (at least for me). I am using FFox 3.0.6 and was experiencing the same problem since...ever?

Compiz: 1:0.7.8.-0ubuntu4.1 package
emerald: 0.7.2-0ubuntu2 package

Open ccsm, navigate to a item which should be called 'correctives' (i'm using the german version which is labeled 'Abhilfen'; its the first in the Tools-category). Now make sure its unchecked. If you open details for this plugin theres a checkbox towards firefox support. Maybe its enough to uncheck this one then unchecking the whole button. I then reloaded emerald and everything works fine (yet...).

Cheers
