Bug Description

The little resize handle in the lower right corner of windows, is not present in
a lot of programs.

Has it: nautilus, gedit, evince
Doesn't have it: firefox, evolution and most others

I think all gnome apps should have it, as it is an important clue at how to do
this and it makes resizing more comfortable, as there is a bigger area that can
be clicked to resize. Without it, it is really easy to miss the right area when
clicking/dragging, especially because when you click the mouse button often you
move the mouse a little as well.

(I guess there should be bugreports for all the apps that don't have it, but
that's too much to do right now for me)

Thanks for your bug. "gnome-desktop" is "gnome-about" binary and a library. Your
issue is app specific, could you open different bugs for the sofware
corresponding to your description?

Does this occur in Lucid?

Confirmed in Maverick. I had the opportunity to resize Firefox, Evolution, Terminal, & Synaptic on any outer surface but the margin of error was very small and it would be helpful to have such a handle. This seems like a wishlist for all noted packages and should be marked as such.

I have had this issue from version 7 of Ubuntu until the current 10.10.
This is VERY ANNOYING.

I do not agree with the statement that this is an app bug: I do agree that it would be nice to have the right corner with this,
but the corner without the triangle should work normal as well.
At the moment I get RSI when trying to enlarge a window.

Can that specifik problem be fixed? so enlarge the area on the side of the windows that activates the resize tool.

The window borders (as of Ubuntu 10.10) of all applications are extremely thin.
Because of this it is very hard to 'catch' them with a mouse in order to resize the window.

A possible solution is to use a resize grip (that small area at the bottom right corner of some windows which implement it). This resize grip should be displayed and handled by the *window manage*. That way all resizeable windows will have it.

It is instructive to see how Mac OS X did it. They got that one right.
