Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Hi, firefox crashes at startup on my machine. Removing its .mozilla config dir or running in safe mode did not help as well. I have installed a number of packages; it may be due to them. I subsequently removed most of these e.g. flash player, java but it is still crashing.

It is the latest version 2.0.0.10.

I am attaching its gdb log.

Hi,

we are waiting for a duplicate now to get a better idea about what causes this. If you find a way to reproduce please let us know.

Thanks,

Same probleme than markft. Also, if I try to start Firefox (or "firefox -safe-mode) in a "console", I get "Floating point exception (core dumped)"
After have removed ~/.mozilla, I installed firefox-2.0.0.11 (package tar.gz, then via Ubuntuzilla [ubuntuzilla-4.4.5-0ubuntu1-i386.deb]), : no change.
I also returned to the previous version of libcairo2 (1.4.10-1Ubuntu4 [gutsy]): always the crash. I finally searched for a Monaco font, witch could cause the problem: no Monaco font on my system.

please run firefox from a terminal like:

  strace -f -eopen firefox &> /tmp/firefox.strace.log

Next, reproduce the problem and attach the firefox.strace.log file to
this bug.

Thank you Alexander.
But I finally found the problem. A recently installed truetype fonts directory, "Gothic_&_Medieval", in /usr/share/fonts/truetype. I delete it and Firefox now works fine.

I have exactly the same problem. In my case, firefox crashed when it was executed on vnc4server with a resolution of 2560x1600, 16bit color depth. Firefox segfaulted on a smaller resolution (1024x768), too.

As a sidenote, ~/.vnc/xstartup was:

unset SESSION_MANAGER
. /etc/X11/Xsession

which launched the default gnome desktop.

I think this can be a of this bug. I found that changing the theme from human to glossy solved the problem.

Firefox starts and crash few seconds later.
It works on some pages ( like this one), but not on most like google or the wiki.

I've done : strace -f -eopen firefox &> /tmp/firefox.strace.log if it can help.

The last things I 've done are : Re-compile wxWidgets and installed some few fonts. But after that every thing was OK.

regards.

Now it seems to be Ok. I cpied 3 fonts from an XP PC

-rwx------ 1 root root 288496 2008-04-29 14:28 arialbd.ttf
-rwx------ 1 root root 288496 2008-04-29 14:28 arial.ttf
-rwx------ 1 root root 26612 2008-04-29 14:28 Font - Truetype - Ocr-Best.ttf
../..

i've deleted the third one ( 'Font - Truetypeafter-Ocr...'
and a changed the rights o the 2 arials with:

   sudo chmod 644 ar*.ttf

And now it seems to run fine.
