With Ubuntu 17.10 Wayland (64 bits AMD), Firefox opens always with the window in full-screen size. If you reduce the size before closing it, next time, it will open in full-screen size.

Same thing occurs for me using Ubuntu 17.10 with xorg

Ubuntu 18.04, Firefox 59.02 64 bit has the same problem. Nvidia driver 390.48 in use.

Ubfan (ubfan1) wrote :

If the Firefox windows is larger than some limit when closed, it will open in full-screen mode next time it is opened. If smaller than this limit, the size at close will be used as the size when reopened.

Happens to me, too, but with all windows, not just Firefox. Ubuntu 18.4. Didn't happen with 17.4. (jordanjsc) wrote :

Ubuntu 18.04, latest Firefox as of today, always opens up maximized. For what it's worth, it does not happen with any other apps *with the exception* of Chromium and Chrome, which both open maximized. (Intel Graphics).

Almost all applications (Firefox, Nautilus, Google Chrome, PyCharm, Skype, Calendar and other) opens in maximized size if it window size was larger than some value (more than about 80% of display width and height) when application was closed.

Ubuntu 18.04, NVidia drivers, Gnome Shell

Olivier Tilloy (osomon) wrote :

This looks more like a feature of the window manager, rather than application-specific bugs.

Olivier Tilloy (osomon) wrote :

(I added a mutter source package task to reflect this)

Oliver Brakmann (obrakmann) wrote :

This is indeed a mutter "feature". Use 'gsettings set org.gnome.mutter auto-maximize false' to turn it off.
