Bug Description

I've followed the troubleshooting information suggested in Firefox with no results including multiple reboots. Also uninstalled & reinstalled firefox. Still cannot restore bookmarks or import bookmarks from html. Cannot sync bookmarks using firefox sync.

Firefox still reports that the bookmark & history system is not available because some files are in use by another application.

Brent,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have several releases of Firefox since that time.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported?

Please let us know if you do otherwise this bug report will expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

Thanks for following up.

I did try installing FireFox a couple more times but with no success.
More recently i installed it using the snap and it appears to be
functioning fine.

I always assumed that I had some 'artifact' of a previous FireFox install
or another application that caused this problem. Just wasn't smart enough
to find & correct it.

As far as I am aware the snap version of Firefox will store settings in a different area to that of the .deb. I wonder if you have some settings in the ~/.mozilla directory owned by a user other than you. If you still have those settings in place you could search for anything owned by another user.

In the past I've found running in the home directory:

find \! -user yourusername

to have revealed several files owned by root that have stopped various applications from working correctly. Correcting the owner allowed those applications to then function as expected.

That was kind of my assumption when I installed the Firefox snap - that it
would be somewhat isolated from the rest of my system by the snap
"container".

I'm going to do a clean install of 18.04.1 in the near future so I'm not
sure how much effort needs to be put into following up on this.

Regardless, here are the results from find:
