Bug Description

Hi,

I just apt-upgraded a 16.04 machine to the latest packages, which rendered firefox unusable. The firefox gui appears, but it does not show contents of webpages, refuses a login to an unencrypted (still secure because tunneled) webpage and blasts trillions of messages like

 [ 691.871185] audit: type=1400 audit(1485603229.158:2983): apparmor="DENIED" operation="mknod" profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}" name="/dev/shm/org.chromium.fHVuSZ" pid=6325 comm=57656220436F6E74656E74 requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

into the log. Looks like wrong or outdated apparmor settings keep firefox from running properly.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1660031/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I think this might be at least related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1334778.

Yup, looks related.

Firefox downloads pages and interpretes them (otherwise it could not complain about a password automatically filled into a form on an unencrypted web site, so it must have parsed the form), but displays just empty pages.

And indeed, trouble came with upgrade from firefox 50 to 51.

Same problem! The point update 50.0.1 doesn't seem to solve it. Pages load fine in Chromium

Hadmut and anyone else affected,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

The upstream bug report https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1334748 (1334778 quoted above was a duplicate) is showing as "RESOLVED FIXED". Can this bug report also be closed?

Thank you all for helping make Ubuntu better.
