Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Hello! I've just upgraded to Gutsy and font size became very small. I've changed it in "Appearance" menu item but i still have small fonts (both menu and page/message view) in Firefox and Thunderbird, though fonts in Gnome system menu returned to normal size.
I use Gnome and my system is up-to-date (updated today, 22.06.07).
Firefox (with gnome-support + locale-ru)
Thunderbird (with gnome-support + locale-ru)
Look at screenshot and see the difference between Gnome menu and Firefox menu.

Also I think it can be a problem with GTK, because Firefox and Thunderbird work well in KDE with gtk-qt-engine.

This isn't quite a duplicate bug; firefox (at least when run under gnome) uses gnome's font settings and sizes, but it gets the DPI values from X. Why doesn't it get all the settings from gnome?

In order to work around this problem, you need to have firefox's DPI setting match gnome's. There are two ways to fix this.

1) go to about:config in firefox, and change "layout.css.dpi" to match the value in gnome's font settings (under system -> preferences -> appearance -> fonts -> details).

2) make sure layout.css.dpi is set to -1, then change gnome's font DPI setting to match the value reported by X:

$ grep DPI /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(==) intel(0): DPI set to (100, 100)

$ xrdb -query | grep dpi
Xft.dpi: 100.000000
