Faced the same bug at 64-bit 12.04. Clean install after official release.

In my case problem arose because /home/myUserName/.mozilla was owned by root user for some reason - unlike other hidden folders. So sudo chown -R myUserName:myUserName /home/myUserName/.mozilla did the trick, and Firefox works well now.

That is quite common, caused by users running Firefox with sudo. In fact, we detect this automatically for people who follow the guidelines and use Apport when reporting a Firefox bug (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs)

I had this on both firefox and thunderbird. The first time it happened a reboot cured, but after a subsequent reboot it became permanent. It turned out that something had removed the executable attribute from ~/.cache (no idea what or when). None of the other threads seem to have suggested this, so I thought I should log it. Once you know where to look it is easy to see and correct.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Firefox since that time.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported using currently supported versions of Firefox and Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
