Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

I am using Ubuntu 9.10. When I try to up the screen resolution with NVIDIA X Server, it closes firefox without asking to save tabs, and firefox also refuses to load at that screen resolution. The screen resolution change is successful. I am using a new video card, pcie 2.0 EVGA GT 240, 512MB DDR5 in a pcie 1.0 slot. I don't know how a graphics card can close programs, so the problem could be with either the nvidia driver or with firefox 3.5.5

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Does just Firefox close, or does X restart?

Micah,

Just firefox closes. X remains active and apparently completely functional. I also haven't tested any other programs to see if they fail - this is finals week, and I am busy studying. My last finals are today though.

You guys are on this pretty hard, I'm impressed.

Thanks,
James

I found the nvidia accelerated graphics driver version 185 and installed it. I now can up my screen resolution to 1800 by 1440. Firefox is working fine now. For other reasons, I have recently done a complete OS reinstall. Now Ubuntu and Windows XP are on different hard drives (Make sure to use at least a 20 GB partition for windows. Don't ask me how I know!) That may have affected the problem as well.

It's fixed now though.

Thanks
