Language used by Firefox's spellchecker does not default to language chosen in gnome-language-selector

Bug Description
Binary package hint: firefox
Installation was performed in oem mode from a 9.10 cd where the following packages were added to the squashfs and filesystem.
gimp-help-common openoffice.
Adding this set of packages to the cd allows a user to choose either English or Spanish and have full internationaliz
During installation, the locale chosen was en_US.UTF-8. During user setup via oem-config, English was chosen. After logging in to the newly-created user account and starting Firefox, the language it uses for spell checking is es-GT. English / United States is in Firefox's list of available languages but it is not chosen, despite gnome-language-
Other applications like Gedit and OpenOffice.org properly spellcheck in English, so I think this problem is specific to Firefox.
