I had to go back to vista just to surf the internet. And the problem is not solved since I posted back in october. It's too bad since I love ubuntu's multiple desktops and other cool features.

There is a bug in IPv6 for DNS: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eglibc/+bug/417757

Try the following:
go to about:config
find network.dns.disableIPv6
if it says false, right click and select toggle to change it to true

I have network.dns.disableIPv6 set to true, and the load times are still very long on some web pages. (My PC is different, but it's still Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit.)
