Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

On my Kubuntu Karmic amd64 system, if I place a window on top of Firefox and scroll the Firefox window in such a way so that new content should come out from under the second window, only corrupted text/images appear. I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate the problem. The Firefox in the screenshot is a custom build, but the builds from Karmic and the ubuntu-mozilla-daily PPA are afflicted with the same problem. If it matters, my system has an Nvidia 8600m GT using the non-free drivers. Several versions of this driver still exhibit the problem, so the problem is not caused by Nvidia. Additionally, the problem does not occur with any other program I have tried, such as Konqueror.

I am having the same problem on Karmic i386.

I'm using an Nvidia card as well and the problem exists with FF 3 as well as with 3.5.

Do you remember when the bug started happening? For me, it was around the time I upgraded to KDE 4.3RC2 and I installed the Nvidia 190.xx drivers. Which nvidia driver are you using? Do you have KDE?

I am currently using Nvidia 190.32, but the problem has been happening since the leaked 190.09 drivers. I have made several posts about this in the nvnews forum Nvidia Linux Section, but have never received a reply.

I'm using NV driver 185 with the same bug.
and this bug appears only on metacity; compiz evades the bug.

easiest way to reproduce the bug:

1) go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Firefox
2) place mouse cursor on any wikiterm. "tooltip" floats up.
3) scroll using the mouse wheel, moving the wikiterm out of the cursor, removing the "tooltip" (what's the correct term btw?)
4) gray box will remain where the tooltip was.

this bug does not appear on nvidia driver 173.

I am going to mark this confirmed since others have reproduced it.
