As indicated in Bug 481359, it has been arbitrarily decided that the loading cursor on data transfer was bad and it was altogether removed.

However this was actually useful for all those that do not use the status bar and throbber(which are actually harder to notice, especially since usually when you click a link you have your eyes on the link you click, not on the throbber).

It was in many ways very useful as it indicated actual network activity and hence that removal would need to be made an option or if it is thought to be in the wrong place, recoded.
