Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

When screensaver becomes active when Firefox is running, after logging in again, address bar suggestions don't work anymore.

This is on Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04

Many bad Firefox behaviors are in fact caused by one of the many third-party 'themes', 'extensions' and 'plugins'. These will go away with a new profile - that is, when Firefox is restored to default settings and without any extensions and themes. You do not need to delete your old profile to test.
Could you please try with a new profile and let us know the results?

We'd really like to help you figure this out, but we need to know if this still occurs with the latest version of Firefox 3.0 (3.0.13 as of today).
Thanks.

I also encounter this, using Firefox 3.0.13 under Jaunty.
After unlocking the screensaver, the auto-complete doesn't pop-up unless I alt-tab away from Firefox, and then back again.

However, I can't get it to exhibit the behaviour when unlocking immediately after I lock (using Ctrl+Alt+L). It may be a timing issue, as usually I've been away from the computer for at least a few minutes when I do experience the problem.

FTR the addons I use are: Adblock, NoScript, RESTClient, Tree Style Tab and the Ubuntu FF Mods.
If I remember, I'll try leaving FF open using a blank profile next time.

Just experienced the same issue after starting FF with a completely fresh profile (only the Ubuntu mod addon installed). It had been about 10-15 minutes between locking and unlocking the machine.

Could you please start an strace before you lock the screen and keep it running until you resume?
Please open Firefox using the following command:
strace -eopen firefox 2>&1 | tee /tmp/strace_ff.log

Please reproduce the problem and attach /tmp/strace_ff.log to this bug when you are done.

Thanks.

Okay, here's what I just did:
- Ran Firefox by your command (selected plain profile; opened to default Ubuntu page)
- Typed 'goo' into the address bar, and observed that the pop-up appeared (then escaped a couple of times to get rid of it)
- Locked computer through Ctrl+Alt+L
- Unlocked computer a few minutes later
- Typed "goo" in the address bar; observed lack of pop-up
- Quit Firefox

I have this bug also. When the screensaver becomes active while Firefox is running, after going back to Firefox, address bar suggestions do not appear anymore. In fact, they seem to appear for a very brief moment, and then disappear.

The only extension I have installed is Adblock Plus. The bug persists with a new profile, I checked by backuping ~/.mozilla/firefox and letting Firefox create a new one.

The bug existed with Firefox 3.0.11-13 on 9.04, and now I see it is still here on 9.10 and Firefox 3.5, along with a few new malfunctions.

The workaround I found is to minimize Firefox to tray and re-maximize it. Only then the address bar suggestions work again.
