Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

After upgrading to Jaunty beta, Firefox takes forever to navigate from page to page, often pausing for 20-30 seconds and turning grey before coming back. Occasionally it freezes the entire system and prevents other applications from being used. Mouse and keyboard remain active. Here is the result of apt-cache policy firefox:

~$ apt-cache policy firefox
firefox:
  Installed: 3.0.7+nobinonly-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.0.7+nobinonly-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.0.7+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I have disabled all add-ons/themes to Firefox, and it seems to run a bit faster, but the condition continues to occur.

I am attempting to collect debug info from Firefox following the wiki guidelines here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs?action=show&redirect=DebuggingFirefox

I have not been able to get the package information to install the FF debug system, I don't know if that is an issue with too many users accessing the package information or some other issue.

Just an update, this is not a bug in Firefox. I noticed that the problem was also occurring in Thunderbird, so I turned off Beagle with beagle-shutdown and everything is back to normal.

I've seen the same thing - is it worth turning this into a beagle bug?

I don't know. My indexer was set to very low priority, and this was still happening. Note that I had the Beagle indexer plugins for Firefox and (I think, I'll check when I am in front of my system) Thunderbird installed. Maybe the plugins are part of the problem.

has anyone seen this bug in the last couple of years ? If not it's probably worth closing, since it was Jaunty.
