Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in firefox.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. Firefox is wrong package. Fixed.
Is this abug in Firefox? Or did you see this in in another browser
Can you please list any and all extensions you have. this sounds like an extension problem
Try running the following
firefox --safe-mode

Changed in firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

It might be in firefox. I will just avoid doing what
I did, I'm not a "get into the terminal and know what
to do person." I'm a download the fix type of person.
Thank you for looking into the problem, John.

I can confirm this as a problem, I had the same thing happen to me, I had to Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to get out of there.

Hi Steve, glad I could be of help, I've only had Ubuntu for about a week
coming from Win XP. I found the info in the Ubuntu pocket guide which
you can download from the absolute beginners forum it has been a
Godsend, I have learned a lot and don't feel as vulnerable as I would if
I had nothing to refer to.

Confirmed here as well.

 Ubuntu 8.1 (intrepid)
 Linux 2.6.27-14-generic
 GNOME 2.24.1
 firefox 3.0.10

Click on bookmarks, click on a bookmark folder, attempt to drag a bookmark to another folder. Cursor shape changes then system locks up, with cursor in its new shape.

Clicking on anything then doesn't work - even on items in the task bar. Total lock-out.

You can get a terminal up, and maybe kill firefox. Didn't try that - just decided to reboot.

Quite a serious bug in my opinion.
