Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1.
Version of Firefox package: 3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1

I can't really say why it happened but all my bookmarks have been deleted without my intervention. Also, the behaviour of a default browser is broken. I click a link in Liferea for example, but it doesn't get open in Firefox. I can't add new bookmarks (there is no "star" and the old way or keyboard shortcuts don't work either), the history doesn't show up.

Someone said they got their bookmarks back by uninstalling firefox and then getting Firefox2 through Add/remove programs or something and then they were able to export there bookmarks before upgrading to Firefox3. I'm not sure i got this right so good luck trying to make sense of what i said there. Good luck and have fun :)

I skipped trying to install Firefox2 and installed Ubuntu 8.10 while keeping the /home partition from my previous install on 8.04.1. That didn't help Firefox at all. It's still unusable, has no bookmars, keeps no history (e.g. "back" button doesn't work). Could it be that FF app doesn't have rights to write to a local user profile?

Thank you for submitting this bug to Ubuntu. This bug is likely a duplicate of bug 399950. I see that it has been a while since there has been any activity with this bug. Are you still experiencing problems? Is your experience same as the other bug?

Well, I gave up about it and reinstalled my system to 9.04. Yes, it was somewhat similar to bug 399950, but I didn't have any problems with HDD space though. As far this bug concerns me, it can be closed...

This can be caused by a few things:
1 profile (dont use an old one) transferring profiles can cause a problem with a few things. i back up the whole ~./mozilla dir. and i havent had any issues.
2. extensions is the biggest cause. Most of the time useing a new profile fixes this.

Changed in firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

John, in most cases what you say is true. However, in this and a few other cases the problem has not been quite so trivial - hence the bug-reports after people have tried normal methods such as you suggest.

Tom :)

Tom i dont see anyone say that they have tried a new profile or anything else other than installing firefox-2 or reinstalling system. So still stands please try the above.
