Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

For example, when you click on a link that opens in a new window (also from within programs such as Pidgin Instant Messenger), Mozilla extends above all menu bars and I need to click on full screen and then again on normal view to return to the desktop. This is a recent problem with my upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 and very annoying! I cannot make a screenshot of it as this also does not work when Mozilla is in this mode.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: firefox-3.0 3.0.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2

 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: firefox-3.0
Uname: Linux 2.6.27-7-generic i686

sorry for the late reply.

No, I cannot pull the title bar. Actually, to use the menu bar I need to first go to full screen and then minimize again.

I don't understand what you mean?

When the window extends above the top menu, I also do not see the top bar of Mozilla above File, edit, view. etc. I also do not see the menu bar at the bottom. When I click on a e-mail address, my mail program also does not get on top. The only way to get out is by clicking on View --> Full screem or F11because then I can minimize or close the program with the x.

Sorry, i thoght someone else would have started answering this by now. Sorry for the delay.

umm the main Ubuntu taskbar at the top of the screen can be moved by right-clicking on it and selecting the 'Allow Panel to be moved' then simply drag it out the way although it doesnt actually move until your mouse arrow is really close to the middle of one side of the screen or the other. Hopefully that gives enough room for you to grab the Mozillas title bar and drag it down and hopefully allow you to make the mozilla window much smaller than the screen size - hopefully small enough so that you can put the Ubuntu taskbar bak and still have plenty of space left over.

Alternatively if you can see the Ubuntu taskbar at the bottom then you could right-click on the Mozilla button or whatever its called and then select one of the options that looks best to you. Perhaps 'Always On Top' would allow you to adjust the size of the mozilla window so that its much much smaller than the screen size.

Good luck and i hope you have already sorted this over christmas - sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

Regards and happy new year from
Tom

I've been having the same problem. In addition, when I do get back to a normal screen (after hitting F11 twice), the Mozilla window is silver, as if either a different theme (I have it on default brown) or as if it's not selected. The trick to get out of it (entering & exiting full-screen mode doesn't work all the time.

I've changed the status to Confirmed and also changed it to "This bug affects me too (change)". Beyond my little work-arounds i haven't got anything else i can do. Has anyone tried sending this bug upstream to Bugzilla?

Help!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Is this a duplicate of bug 209499 . Does if occur if compiz is turned off?
