Confirmed.

Having Facebook on the active tab makes CPU use for firefox and Xorg spike, using a a combined 70-80% of one core on a Core 2 Duo T5500. Moving to another tab makes both processes return to normal.

The high CPU usage does not seem to come with a related memory leak.

To test that the bug is on firefox and not on Xorg, i installed Opera and ran facebook on it. No signs of the bug were observed in Opera.

I can also confirm. Firefox exhibits this behaviour even with a brand new (firefox) profile and with the --safe-mode option.

My info:
-Intrepid (x86)
-Firefox 3.0.3
-Steps to reproduce:
-Open up Firefox, go to Facebook. Login to a facebook account. Xorg CPU usage will shoot up.
-I can reproduce this even with a fresh .mozilla folder.

NOTE: This behaviour is only reproduced when the user is logged in to a Facebook account.
