Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

If one has connected to a GVFS/gnome-vfs share and then uses a standard HTML form for uploading a file, it is not possible to have the source file be on the remote share.

In Hardy it is possible to select the file from the share, but the path is never transferred to the form, in Intrepid the share is simply not listed.

LAST TESTED:
Intrepid: FF 3.0.10
Jaunty: FF 3.0.10

WORKAROUND:
pick up your files in ~/.gvfs/<name of the share> with firefox ...

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Do you have the firefox-3.0-gnome-support package installed?

Could you please test in another browser such as Epiphany? We'd like to know the scope of the issue.
Thanks.

Hello,

I just tested with epiphany :
epiphany-browser 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Intuitive web browser - dummy package
epiphany-browser-data 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Data files for the GNOME web browser
epiphany-extensions 2.26.0-0ubuntu2 Extensions for Epiphany web browser
epiphany-gecko 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Intuitive GNOME web browser - Gecko version

and it has the same behavior : cannot access mounted network share (in my case, a samba share, with ldap authentication if it can change something).
Passing through ~/.gvfs works, like on firefox.

Using Konqueror is worth, as it doesn't load ~/.gtk-bookmarks [well, worth, not really, it's a KDE/QT app, so it just don't know about this file], and it doesn't show up gvfs share (also "logic", as gvfs is pure Gnome stuff)

Hope this will help.

Regards,

C. Jeanneret

I can confirm this bug too. It seems to affect epiphany and firefox-3.5. Maybe the problem is not with firefox, could be some issue witha a gtk upload dialog ?

The "feature" of gvfs mounted shares not showed in the upload dialog of Firefox is present in Lucid.

Does this occur in Epiphany in Lucid?

Yes, also Epiphany present the same behaviour (and I am not surprised of it).

A workaround is to add to my bookmarks the folder .gvfs, but an icon should appear on the list as for other resources connected to the machine.

Discovered it here with the latest Firefox on Lucid.

   1. Open Nautilus and locate the .gvfs directory in your home directory (ctrl-h displays the hidden entries)
   2. Right click on .gvfs and make a link.
   3. Rename the “Link to .gvfs” to something like “Network”
   4. Drag the entry from above to your Nautilus bookmarks

This should make the behaviour "almost" as expected.
You could omit steps 2 and 3 but you would end up with a not very descriptive link called .gvfs
