I am trying to access my microsoft hotmail. Earlier with the original version of Firefox-3.0, it was opening the welcome page quickly, but after I had upgraded to the currect version of Firefox-3.0.3, it suggests upgrade Firefox (when actually no upgrade is currently available)

Sounds to me like another "feature" of Microsoft's hotmail service.

Yes, it sounds like another nice feature of microsoft.
Can you attach a screenshot? I don't have a hotmail acccount.
Can you also try changing your user-agent with some firefox extension to look like version 3.0 and tell if the error does disappear?
