Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs? Also, please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

- Firefox does not crash.

- apt-show-versions | grep flash
flashplugin-nonfree/hardy uptodate 9.0.124.0ubuntu2

- No java package shown by apt-show-versions | grep jre

- EXTENSIONS:
chm reader + tvu webplayer + Ubuntu firefox modifications.

thanks

I can reproduce this with Opera web browser as well as Firefox 3. It's not just a Firefox related issue. It's happening since the 20th or 21th from this month (October), when I did an update. It contained the kernel update to -21. However it still happens when booting into -19.

Other flash applications (myspace music, flash games) work as usual. Except youtube (or any video site) videos. When the video stops playing (after 2-10 seconds) the network graph from the system monitor applet stops showing activity, and the video no longer keeps loading.

How to reproduce:
Open Firefox / Opera. Go to a youtube video. Press play. After 2-10 seconds the video stops and also stops loading.

Firefox / Opera don't crash, so there is no backtrace.

Additional Information:
pasto@anakin:~$ apt-show-versions | grep flash
flashplugin-nonfree/hardy uptodate 9.0.124.0ubuntu2

pasto@anakin:~$ apt-show-versions | grep jre
sun-java5-jre/hardy uptodate 1.5.0-15-0ubuntu1
sun-java6-jre/hardy uptodate 6-07-3ubuntu2

Firefox Extensions (in case they are needed, but the problem also happens with Opera):
Adblock Plus 0.7.5.4
Add N Edit Cookies 0.2.1.3
FoxyProxy 2.8.9
NoScript 1.3.2
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.5

Additional comment:
Videos play perfectly through Elisa media center. I guess this points to something related to the flash plugin with video streaming.

On my previous comment, I meant 'youtube videos'.

Same thing happens with adobe flash 10 (by uninstalling the flashplugin-nonfree package, and installing the flash 10 .deb from the adobe site)

pasto@anakin:/tmp$ apt-show-versions | grep flash
adobe-flashplugin 10.0.12.36-1hardy1 installed: No available version in archive

So I'm going back to the ubuntu flashplugin-nonfree package. And reinstalling did not solve the problem.

This started working again for me on Hardy Heron. I'm still sure what triggered it.
