crashing, and unpredictable behaviour

Bug #257897 reported by pjk

firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

These are likely two separate bugs. Firefox crashes when I close a tab. No error messages are given. It crashes at random times for no reason at all, but that is less common than the tab closing bug.

Also, a second bug is that right-clicking on a link should only bring up a menu. Instead I get all manner of unpredictable results. At any given moment, a right click on the same link could bring up a menu, it could launch a new window, it could ask me to bookmark the link, it could launch the link inside a tab. I've gotten all of these behaviours for ordinary links to web pages.

Hi,

for completion, could you please provide the following information:
1. Version of ubutu you are running. (lsb_release -d)
2. Version of firefox you are using. (dpkg -l firefox)

I understand that you cannot reproduce your results on demand. But if you could help provide something on those lines it will be helpful. may be there is a link which upon right click always brings up bookmark dialogbox? etc..

Suman.

Changed in firefox-3.0:
status: New → Incomplete

Hi,

regarding the second bug: it seems to be a duplicate. see: 187313. There is a work around.
I am able to reproduce this bug (kind of randomly) on dell d610 laptop. havent tried the workaround yet, but wanted to let you know.

Suman.

I suffer from both problems. The latter is most well documented so I will duplicate the 2nd one. The first problem is also well known, but because it crashes on random things, no-one yet has managed to pin point what's causing it. No need to open another bug for it.
