I encountered a similar problem (See attached screenshot).

For me it occurred just after configuring my second monitor (which I configured using nvidia-settings) and without my xorg.conf saved, and I was getting some other funny effects as well (like windows opening on the border between my screens, toolbars spanning both screens, etc).

However, after fiddling with my settings and restarting X the problem seemed to go away.

If you're still encountering this bug, it might be worth posting your xorg.conf and/or more information on your setup.

Xubuntu, Xfce desktop environment.

I use xrandr to configure dual screen.

The bug happens, if I start Firefox when only one screen is on and later enable dual screen (extended desktop) by xrandr. (I don't know, if configuring dual screen in xorg.conf would do more good than bad.)

And the bug happens to a Firefox window located in one of the two screens only, not for a Firefox window in the other screen.

This affects me too, with the symptoms exactly as described here. A similar bug was reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/280914 and then closed, but at least in hardy this bug remains. (I wonder if that bug was not tested properly)

I can confirm this as multiple people are finding it, and there are upstream bug reports too, at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29100 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62395
