Hardy: Firefox 3.0b5 does not memorize my bookmarks

Bug Description

This is a new Hardy, not an upgrade. When I follow the procedure to import bookmarks from a file:
Bookmarks > bookmarks manager > import and save > import > from a file

When I do so then, it works once, but if I close/open FF 3.0, they have disappeared!!!

On top of that, I cannot erase existing personal bar to replace it by mine

Are you using more than one profile either for firefox-3.0 or even if you use firefox-2 and firefox-3 on same or different profiles?

No I just installed yesterday the latest Ubuntu, with the "by default" Firefox 3.0. Just one profile (the one installed), no FF2 I used the one installed

I've had problems with bookmarks too but my firefox3 is an upgrade. You can see into the firefox's profile folder (~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/). Ther was two bookmarks files into my profile folder:

    "bookmarks.html" and "bookmarks.postplaces.html"

Rename the first of them to "bookmarks.html.something" fix me the problem.

It's seens "bookmarks.html" is the original bookmarks file from Firefox 2 . "bookmarks.postplaces.html" plays a role in updates fron ff2 to ff3 and posibly in ff3.0b4, in ff30.b5 bookmarks are keept into sqlite format and bookmarks.postplaces.html is not update.

Any bookmarks added during an FF3 session vanish after the session is closed. Like gerard and magripli, my FF3 is not an upgrade so JaSaavedra's fix doesn't help me.

Suggests that permissions are to blame. But my user already has read and write permissions on "bookmarks.html", so I don't think that's a problem.

I seem to be experiencing this as well.

I'm running a fresh Hardy install (not an upgrade) from June 1st. I didn't import any bookmarks. I've had no problems with Firefox 3 in this time, until today. I have not lost any of my old bookmarks, but now any changes I made to my bookmarks - adding, deleting, modifying - disappear when I close and restart.

I noticed that there was an firefox package update today, but I can't say if the issue exactly coincides.

I have checked my permission as suggested, but my bookmarks.html is writable (644). A newly-created profile does not exhibit this issue.

About Mozilla shows: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060309 Firefox/3.0

Have you tried to disable your extensions in tools -> addons?

I had the exact same problem. I fixed it my going into my /<user>/.mozilla/firefox/<funnyname>.default directory and pasting in my bookmarks. After I did that, no more problems.

Since that first time, I've had occasion to do a reinstall. I backed up that entire directory first, then pasted back in when I was back up and running. No problems.

Upgrading to 3.0~rc1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 fixed this bug for me. I now have persistent bookmarks in Firefox.

I tried disabling the two new extensions I added today (xpather and dom-inspector), which did not change anything. I did not try disabling the other extensions, I'll try that tomorrow.

3.0~rc1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 is the update I just installed today, I don't know if I was having the problem earlier but I'm definitely having it with this version.
