Bug Description

The flash animation on the following page does not play in Firefox-3.0:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7326097.stm

I've tried with both the Gnash and the Adobe nonfree plugins.

It does play in Firefox 2 in a Windows XP virtual machine running under VMWare.

Version info:

Ubuntu 8.04 beta
Firefox 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu2
gnash 0.8.2-0ubuntu3
flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.124.0ubuntu2
lib-flash moz-plugin 0.4.13-9ubuntu1

Using the open source ATI driver 1:6.8.0-1 with EXA acceleration

I can confirm this. Playing embedded flash videos from other sites work okay, for example YouTube.com, but the video that the reporter linked to crashes firefox for me. I'm using version 3.0~b5+nobinon.

Confirmed on ubuntu 8.04 amd64 and i386. On amd64, it eventually worked after I reinstalled flashplugin-nonfree.

On i386, I still can't get the flash plugin to appear in the registered plugins list (location: "about:plugins"), no matter how many times I reinstall flashplugin-nonfree. and restart firefox (3.0b5).

This problem is fixed for me in the latest firefox using the flashplugin-nonfree, so I guess it has been fixed.

firefox 3.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1
flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.124.0ubuntu2 (no change since original report)
ubuntu 8.04 with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic amd64
