Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I didn't have a java plugin installed. Browsing to a site with an embedded java applet, such as http://www.dailyscroggle.com/ caused firefox to display the "install missing plugins" bar as it should. Clicking on "install missing plugins" gave one option, for the GCJ web plugin.

Clicking "next" with this selected simply closed the plugin finder window. The site refreshed, and the "install missing plugins" bar popped up again.

I'm running up-to-date Hardy AMD64.

steps to reproduce:
* with no java plugin installed, browse to http://www.dailyscroggle.com/
* try to use "install missing plugins" to install a java plugin

Expected result:
selected plugin is installed and used

Actual result:
nothing happens

After I used Synaptic to install "icedtea-gcjwebplugin", java applets (such as the one on that site) seem to display fine.

I am having the same problem but a little different setup. I have sun-java6-jdk and sun-java5-jdk installed. I visited a site using the Java plugin which prompted me to install the missing plugin. I am given four options: GCJ, Sun Java 6, Sun Java 5 and GCJ (IcedTea). I selected Sun Java 6, clicked next and a screen briefly should something with a Finish button then closed. The page reloads with the same prompt to install missing plugins.

There are plugin files in /usr/lib/jvm, but nothing in /usr/lib/firefox.
