I have Ubuntu 8.04 and my firefox loses toolbar when it restores its session, new session works fine.
When it looses its toolbar, doing Alt-tab makes the icon of Firefox blink in blank.

I have exactly the same problem as pashants: It appeared after I installed Goggle Earth. Removed Google Earth and removed/re-installed firefox 3.04 several times - no effect.
