Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

This bug in hardy has emerged in the last day or two because prior to that flashfunctionality had disappeared completely from the 64-bit firefox 3 beta 5 for a few days.

When I go to a youtube page I will have about 5 minutes tops before firefox freezes. The freeze often happens after the movie has stopped playing.

Something else strange also happened since flash returned: I tried to play an embedded youtube movie on a page and found that it stalled after the first couple of frames. Same happened for another movie. Another movie played at a complete crawl – around 1 or 2 fps with no sound. Tried opening the movie in Totem – same thing. Same for gmplayer. Tried opening a non-flash movie in these players; same thing. Tried opening the non-flash movie in vlc and this time it played at normal speed, but with no sound. Not sure if this is part of the same problem or not.

I shall post again if I manage to repeat the movie slowdown thing. I won't try yet because I don't want firefox to freeze on me until I've finished this report.

The plugin seems to crash in Opera too. The difference is that, in the case of youtube, the video player disappears from the page, but the browser stays running.
