Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I uninstalled the Adobe Flash player to test how well Gnash was in Hardy, and let Firefox guide me through installing Gnash. After successfully installing the Debian package and restarting the browser, Firefox still prompts me to install a Flash plugin.

about:plugins reveals that Gnash is not even listed as a MIME handler for anything, so I suspect the problem may be in Gnash.

ProblemType: Bug

Uname: Linux 2.6.24-11-386 i686

Here is a workaround for all you hardy / firefox-3.0b4 users. This will also work with other versions of firefox. Just change the destination directory.
The problem is that firefox is using "/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b4" while gnash is installing to "/usr/lib/firefox". I am sure once hardy is released firefox will again use "/usr/lib/firefox".

NOTE: Also remove any other files with "flash" in the name from the "/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b4/plugins" before running the command below to remove any previous installs of Adobe flash.

sudo cp /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b4/plugins/

Good Luck and happy youtubing

Curtlee2002, did you read what t6he complaint was or are you just posting that work around for all plugin bugs?
the complaint was flash and gnash dont work but it could be beccause hes not using Ubuntu's version of gnash/flash hes using debians.

Alexander Jones,
Please remove all instances of flash and gnash and please install Ubuntu's version of each, both packages are in Ubuntu repos.

John Vivirito, did you read what the complaint was?
He didn't say he was using a package from Debian's repository. He said "Debian package" which is what .deb files are for Ubuntu, Debian, etc.

The workaround I posted should be fine. It has worked for me on 9 of my computers all running hardy: 3 AMD64's, 2 ppc's, and 4 x86's

I've also experienced this problem. It looks like the java (both 5 and 6) plugin is having the same issue: the plugin link is placed in a directory that the browser never looks in for plugins.

Its works for me... Firefox 3 beta 5
I had a .deb that I made for flash plugin, without md5sum check...

http://guigouz.googlepages.com/flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.666_i386.deb

Its install without problems... nice...
After this... link the /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/xulrunner-addons/plugins
Done! Its working for me on Hardy Heron 32bit version!

Firefox 3b5 seems to be working with flash now. I assume on of the updates in the last few days has fixed it on my system.

Had the same problem with Hardy, Firtefox 3.0 beta 5. 64 bits.

I removed gnash and the shockwave flash player started working!!

There is something wrong with Gnash IMHO

Gnash was working in my system, although flashplugin-alternative.so was located in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/ only.

Sound worked fine, wowever the videos were always black. After installing gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, this was fixed.

Gnash-common suggests to install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, should this be a required dependency?
