Thunderbird not able to launch URL from mail with Firefox 3 Beta 3

With the upgrade to Firefox 3 Beta 3, attempting to launch URL's to Firefox from Thunderbird email does not work. Nothing happens.

Firefox is not responding to any URL clicked or double-clicked from outside itself. I've verified that against Thunderbird, Pidgin, gnome-terminal, and a couple of others. This is on Hardy.

OK, you can change this from Thunderbird to the updates-manager, or maybe its in the package setup. Either way, what happened during the install was that my Preferred Applications / Web Browser got set to 'Custom'. When I swapped it back to 'Firefox' it the problem was resolved.

Are you sure that prior to thunderbird's installation, preferred web browser setting was set to Firefox? Did thunderbird change it from FIrefox to 'Custom'? If so, give your ubuntu release and thunderbird version number.

No, it was not the install of Thunderbird. That was already on the system and up-to-date. It was the dist-upgrade of Firefox 2 to Firefox 3 Beta 3 that started the problem, so the package should be left as firefox.

As to preferred settings, I'm sure it was on Firefox prior to the upgrade. I launch URLs from email several times a day and I'm sure that was working before the upgrade and was one of the first bugs I noticed after I completed the dist-upgrade to Firefox 3 Beta 3. The dist-upgrade for F3B3 was the only upgrade available at the time, so I thought I'd give it a try.
