Just a note to everyone:
This bug report has been closed since the crash reports present on this bug are missing data and challenging to deal with as ".crash" files. Moreover, there seems to be no way to reliably reproduce the problem. If you can come up with some set of actions to reproduce this bug, please follow the following instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.
If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment: Launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

There is way of reproducing this bug. Open multiple tabs, open youtube videos and continue this iteration for next 10 minutes and you'll get this error. This happened for me with Firefox 3 Beta 4 in Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 6.
Every time when I open videos from Youtube and continue switching videos, this happens for sure. I assume this problem must be something to do with the flash plug-in.

geordee (geordee) wrote : | #27 |
This has happened again. The common characteristics of the crash (in my system - all three times) are:
a) a flash video (YouTube) was played for around 5 minutes.
b) Firefox crashed when another video is selected once the first one was over.
c) Used full-screen mode while viewing the first video
I tried playing the last few seconds of one video and selected another. It did not crash. I will upload the crash report the next time it crashes.

This bug's been confirmed too many times over, and definitely seems to be
Flash-related. Gnash would be good to help debug since it's open-source and

(In the meantime, I'm going to install Gnash and see if I can reproduce it;

geordee, this bug is for Firefox 3. You should seek help in gathering a valid crash report for either version via the Ubuntu Forums or Launchpad Questions.

I know. My idea was to give additional information. If similar problems are occurring in two different versions, it may be that the issue is beyond the changes in a specific version. In Hardy I notice that we are able to see the flash videos full screen. Has it got anything to do with this problem or crashing? (I subscribed into this thread because Firefox was crashing while playing "flash videos")

I run both version and I did3nt notice any problem in crashes relevant
to flash. in ver 2 the most are sudden crashes doing nothinng, on 3 the
same plus some pushing bottom like accept or enter on many websites...
on ver 2 I noticed crashes when upgd fm ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10

When I ran Gutsy Gibbon, I had the same problem.
Firefox 2 or 3, it didn't matter. Reinstalling flash_nonfree didn't help either.
What I did notice is that when I removed PulseAudio and went back to
Esound again, the problem vanished.
Now I run Hardy Heron, which uses PulseAudio by default, and the
problem is back again. About a quarter of the attempts to play any
Flash movie with sound results in a Firefox crash. These are mostly
YouTube movies.
Hope that helps a little.

Top of the day, Mr. Conkling;
On Thursday I downloaded the latest series of upgrades to Hardy Heron.
They installed normally except that when they were done and I restarted,
there was no login screen anywhere. The new splash screen is very
pretty, but if I cannot log in, I cannot further upgrade HH. Short of
waiting for the CD to come out, how do I fix this?
I dual boot with XP, and that is where I write this from.

Not sure about why you wouldn't be able to login, but if it's something
that's been fixed in an upgrade you can hit ctl-alt-F1 to go into a
"VTTY". From there you should be able to login, and type
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
to get any package upgrades that might fix your problem...
Beyond that, I don't know... perhaps your /home/ directory isn't
mounted? Can you tell it to log you into a "safe" session? Perhaps one
of your configuration files are broken.

Hello,
thanks for tips, but it is impossible to use Ctrl-Alt-F1 (or any other
kb keys) in this situation, because this bug completelly switch off
whole keyboard. There is only one way - press reset... :-)
Last 4 days it seems to be solved - after latest updates system starts
everytime with keyboard.
I am not able to find wrong package or change in packages, there were a
lot of changes during last days...
I use Ubuntu on this machine from EE,FF (no problems) thru GG (problems
with kb started) to early HH (no kb problems), last two months wer
horrible, but after last updates system is seems to be reliable again
and without described keyboard errors.
So now it's solved IMO...

Top of the day, Mr. Conkling;

Yesterday I upgraded Hardy (it was a partial upgrade) and Firefox 3 is
removed by the upgrade. I have Firefox 2.0.0.13 now and it crashes quite
frequently (especially when I play flash videos from Metacafe). I
ignored the first two crashes - later I am not able to find out the

When I ran Gutsy Gibbon, I had the same problem.
Firefox 2 or 3, it didn't matter. Reinstalling flash_nonfree didn't help ei=
ther.

I know. My idea was to give additional information. If similar problems
are occurring in two different versions, it may be that the issue is
beyond the changes in a specific version. In Hardy I notice that we are
able to see the flash videos full screen. Has it got anything to do with
this problem or crashing? (I subscribed into this thread because Firefox
was crashing while playing "flash videos")

Yesterday I upgraded Hardy (it was a partial upgrade) and Firefox 3 is
removed by the upgrade. I have Firefox 2.0.0.13 now and it crashes quite
frequently (especially when I play flash videos from Metacafe). I
ignored the first two crashes - later I am not able to find out the
dumps in /var/crash. It's not there!
