Steps:
1. Visit a page that contains some italic text, for example http://
2. Look at `Emphasized text`
What happens:
The text style is normal.
Further information:
It works with firefox 2.

Sorry, I can't reproduce. See screenshot attached. Maybe it has to do with your fonts ?
could you try with another set of fonts ?
