Bug Description

Binary package hint: file-roller

When using the "Compress" option of the right menu in Nautilus and choosing the tar.gz mode:
- a message appears in a box: Une erreur s'est produite durant l'ajout de fichiers à l'archive (meaning: An error occured during the addition of files to the archive)
- the size of the archive is fewer than if I make it with the command line: 48,7 instead of 49,1 Mib so the resulting archive is wrong!

If I lauch file-roller by the terminal, it displays:
(file-roller:2343): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_store_get_path: assertion `iter->stamp == tree_store->stamp' failed

I get the same message using tar or tar.bz2 instead of tar.gz.

But there's no error message if using zip of 7z. So the problem is in tar.

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.

Hello Pedro, I no longer have had this problem since I've been using 11.04, even using the same repertory to make the archive (the repertory gathering my important documents).

All the time when I was under 10.10 I had to use CLI to make my archives: I'm sad to say that a bug about such a basic and important feature as this in such an important sofware as the file manager, is not very reassuring and leading you to be trustful about an operating system. May I precise that I am a very fan of free software and Linux that I am using exclusively (Ubuntu) since august 2005, but I think that the bugs management is still a problem for the Linux desktop.

Nevertheless thank's for asking. Anyway Linux is the best!

Best wishes. Philippe

Please re-open this bug. It has not been fixed. I have exactly the same problem on ubuntu 13.04.

This is the error message from the terminal:

** (file-roller:16278): WARNING **: Errore nel creare il collegamento simbolico: File già esistente
"Error creating the symbolic link. File already exist"

The of course does not exist yet.

How to reproduce:

1) compress in rar whatever folder (es: X)
2) double click on X.rar
3) double on on X directory
4) Click on add file

An error message will show up.

Annoying workaround: Double click on X.rar and add the file directly there, then cut and copy inside X folder.
