Bug Description

Binary package hint: file-roller

When extracting multi-archive rars containing a single entry, file roller stays at 50% during the extraction.

File roller appears to be keying off the number of entries in the archive to populate the progress bar, rather than the number of archives in the set. This is somewhat disorienting because the progress stays at 50%.

In this case, either the number of rar files in the archive set should be used, or the progress bar should be put in indeterminate mode.

Thank you for your bug report. What ubuntu version do you use? Could you add an example to the bug?

This is new in intrepid. I believe before intrepid, the progress bar would be set in indeterminate mode. Here is how to reproduce:

1) find a large file, such as the ISO for intrepid
2) rar it into a multi-volume archive:
 rar a -v10240k intrepid.rar intrepid.iso
3) right click/Extract Here...
Note that the progress bar stays at 50% during the duraction of the extraction (see attached screenshot).

yes, it happens to me when it is just one file, for example when i extract an ".avi" file, for example this one:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ASA9GXT9

download it and try to extract it, (with "extract here" right click option) and see what happen...

I recognized another problem considering un-/zipping of .7z archives:
The progress bar moves from left to right to left to right.. and so on.
There is no percentage progress bar.

I use p7zip-full 4.50~dfsg.1-1 (Intrepid)
with file-roller 2.24.1-0ubuntu2

Please tell me, If I should open a new Bug.

Thanks.

I can confirm this on Intrepid, usually with multi volume rar files which contain a single file.

there is a similar issue described on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=153281

the upstream comment explain the iso issue:

"the progress bar is file based, that is it shows you the file that it's
extracting or adding, so if you have a single file in the archive a 50%
progress is displayed."
