Bug Description

Binary package hint: file-roller

When trying to open an archive file that is located on a remote location (like a Samba share, or through SFTP+gvfs) file-roller gives the error message "Operation not supported". When started from command line, it prints "WARNING **: Failed to delete the local copy: Operation not supported". The file is not opened then.

This happens in all cases (opening from Nautilus, manually running file-roller "smb://..." from command line, or running file-roller and using File->Open). The archive file itself is ok and reachable (I can copy it to the local disk with Nautilus and open it from there).

I think this is a regression, because in Hardy file-roller can access remote files just fine.

This was tested on Intrepid (alpha4 plus all updates), with file-roller 2.23.6-0ubuntu1 and gvfs 0.99.5-0ubuntu1.

The upstream fix is good on our 2.24.0 version of file-roller. Attaching debdiff of this fix as a quilt patch. The change to 01_menu_change is just 'quilt refresh' on a fuzzy patch. b/i/r fine.

thank you for your work there, there is no need to backport stable GNOME fixes since 2.24.1 updates will go to intrepid though, I'll sponsor the change anyway since you worked on it now
