Bug Description

I installed Kubuntu 13.10 64bit just yesterday. I have a Dell Inspiron 15R with switchable graphics (AMD Radeon HD 7700M Series ). After running all post-installation software updates, I installed the graphics drivers using your howto:

sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-pxpress

Everything went fine, then I hit the Catalyst Control Center to turn off the discrete GPU and switch to integrated intel card.

From that point, whenever I boot the system or restart X, I get a 22-second soft lockup, accompanied by this dmesg output:

AMD64bit install plagued with soft lock CPU on boot up. Sometimes I can boot into the desktop and everything seems fine. Other times I'll get into the desktop and everything locks up immediately. Most of the time, however, I cannot even fully boot. Bootup gets stuck with CPU Soft Lock on several cores. I tried boot loooping and can hardly get 2 successful boots in a row.

Processor is AMD FX 8120. 8 GB of Ram. Installed on several hard drives with same problem.

Tried clean install. Tried upgrading from 13.04. Tried installing 13.10 server. All have same issue.

13.10 works fine on my intel macbook pro.

What information can I add?
