Bug Description

Xorg Randomly freezes.

It usually happens when a video in Firefox is playing. In particular, Flash, and also the HTML5 Youtube player.
This happens 3-4 times a day.
It has started happening since upgrading to precise, but has not done it all the time I have been upgraded; started about 10 days ago.

Results in either:
1. Total freezing of screen
2. Screen blanks

I am not able to switch into a tty to fix it; the screen remains frozen/blank.
Affects both Unity 3D, and Unity 2D

This isn't just happening in Firefox, it happens with different applications open; it is not clear what is causing it. I could describe it as "random", rather than having any particular pattern. I cannot find a way to reproduce it.

I have the same problem with my laptop (acer aspire 5542 with an ATI Radeon HD 4200, using the fglrx driver). It's pretty much random, although it seems to be more prevalent when using the laptop while running on battery and playing a flash video.

It happens more frequently to me when I enable video (eg. youtube), both in chromium or firefox.
When I ssh-ed from another machine, I could see Xorg was spinning at 100%.

Mine is just a desktop, so I don't think it has anything to do with the battery.

Do you have the fglrx driver installed too?
