Bug Description

My system crashes every time I attempt to switch user. The whole system hangs and I can't seem to see anything out of the ordinary in the logs relating to this (unless it has to do with bug #877115). When I reported the bug ubuntu-bug says that it detected a GPU crash. That was the only clue I can find.

If anyone wants more information, please let me know what I could do to gather this info.

I should also add that this has happened ever since I upgraded to 11.10 recently.

First: Sorry for my crappy paste of the ubuntu-bug information in my previous post.

Second: If I switch from unity to unity2d, the freezes do not occur; as the OP has problems with fglrx and I with nvidia (and others e.g. to be found at askubuntu.org with intel graphics) it seems that the context/opengl switches occuring during a user switch are causing the freezes.

If there is anything I can do to provide more useful information please let me know.

kind regards,
Tom

Yes, I can confirm that changing to unity2d "fixes" everything. I can switch users just fine.

It is not a compiz/unity/lightdm bug. The only constant so far in reproducing this error is an opengl based desktop environment.
I tested lightdm/gdm/unity/gnome 3/awesome/unity 2d.
