The upgradation to ubuntu version 10.04 from version 9.10 not completing..
The update manager force a partial update. when allowed it failed during clean up and gave the following information

number-1: (Could not install 'fglrx'

The upgrade will continue but the 'fglrx' package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it.
“subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2”)

number-2: (Error during commit

A problem occurred during the clean-up. Please see the below message for more information. “installArchives() failed”)

If we cancel the partial upgrade which failed several times, it gave the following information; (Software index is broken

It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.)

how i can solve this issue. it is preventing me from updating the system as upgrade is not finishing.
