probably is related with fgrlx package in invalid state reported before

Could you please attach the files term.log and apt-term.log in /var/log/ist-upgrade/
It should contains the detailed error for the fglrx failure.

sorry for being so late - I had problems with pwd .
I have to say that the kubuntu 9.04 used the AMD closed source drivers for X11
