Don't try to install it on jaunty, it won't work until the driver is updated to work with the new ABI.
The workaround is to manually purge fglrx
$ apt-get remove --purge fglrx*
and you can run the open source version with desktop effects until AMD fixes this bug.
And if that doesn't help, do try to purge ati and radeon drivers and reinstall ati
$ apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati
$ apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-radeon
$ apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati |

AMD is not making any progress for this, and there's little we can do about that beyond the regular nagging on the status calls. We are now focusing on providing the latest free -ati driver which will work on modern chips as well. Please see bug 334101 for details.
Thus I take this off the release blocker list. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't provide a working fglrx driver in jaunty, of course, but it shouldn't be on the release team radar any more. |
