fglrx-core crashes when installing dependencies

The command line that cause this was:

  sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1 libc6-i386 dkms

I downloaded AMD's latest and tried to install them. Upon running those installers, something with fglrx crashed in the background and caused apport to appear. Not quite sure how and why or if this is even critical.

I'm not even sure if the AMD drivers were even running. I'm just very confused right now.

Quick update: I just rebooted after installing the .deb files provided by AMD and now unity won't log me in any more. :(
I boot with option 'nomodeset' and reach the unity login screen. The I try to log in, then the screen goes blank, and then I am back to the login again.

Expected: Desktop
Observed: Login screen (no errors reported on screen)
